Bat Wing Cicada (Tosena aguila).
Male cicadas create a sound from structures called túmbale located in the sides of the abdomen. Their singing is created by contracting and relaxing the tumbal muscles which produces a clicking sound. Their hollow abdomen amplifies the resonance of the sound- that’s why they are so loud!

5” x 5” wood canvas panel.
Comes strung with picture wire for hanging.

Farmed specimen. Ordered from an entomological supply company.
