Bristle-tail Filefish

Bristle-tail Filefish.

This little fish can rapidly change color, texture and pattern in order to blend into its environment.

Filefish have a thickened first dorsal fin spine. During displays with other fish, particularly other filefish, they erect these to increase size and posture to rivals or potential partners.

The sea fan is from a trip to PR. My partner is Puerto Rican, so on every trip to see family I walk the beach looking for dead bits.

5.25" x 5.25" with custom made frame. Comes with saw-toothed hanger.

This fish was accidental bycatch from the fishing industry. Instead of just being tossed back dead, it was salvaged for art.
